Holland and Barrett Charcoal Tooth Whitening Powder
A mint flavoured Charcoal tooth whitening powder.

What is it?
On my teeth-whitening mission, I’ve picked up a product that seems to be incredibly popular at the moment, tooth-whitening powder. This one came from Holland and Barrett, an own brand product, and is a charcoal ‘mint flavoured’ whitening powder. You brush with it for two minutes twice a day BEFORE using toothpaste, which, I’ll be honest, I’ve never been so glad to taste toothpaste in my mouth after using this…
I used this product twice a day (morning and night) for a week, and it was a challenge for sure. The powder claims to be ‘minty’ but the mintiness lasts all of five seconds and then it’s just a vile taste that I don’t even know what to compare it to, maybe powdery ash? It’s nothing like using a toothpaste because it doesn’t foam up at all, so it was quite an odd experience. The jar recommends brushing for two minutes, and I found it very difficult to keep brushing with such a horrible taste – but, I powered through because who knows, maybe this will be the miracle product of my dreams?

Did it work?
Overall, I’ve not been impressed at all with the product, and it tastes so disgusting that I think even if it did whiten my teeth I still wouldn’t ever use it again. I hoped and prayed that over the week the taste would get more pleasant but it just didn’t. Yes, it’s easy to use; it just adds an extra two minutes of brushing to your routine, but just isn’t enjoyable at all and didn’t seem to give any results. I also found that my gums got a little sensitive, although I think this is more from the additional brushing time rather than the product itself. On the positive, it comes in a nice glass jar so at least that’s recyclable…
