If you are a lover of cheese, you now have another reason to enjoy this food! Studies have found cheese raises the pH in your mouth and lowers risk of tooth decay. Eating cheese after a meal can also counteract the acid left by the meal. Cheese, like other dairy products, contains calcium and protein; nutrients which strengthen tooth enamel.
Munching on crunchy foods such as apples and carrots helps remove plaque from your teeth and works as a cleansing tool, so bacteria gets cleared away. Kale and spinach are great examples as they are high in calcium, contain folic acid and improve the level of iron in your blood. Try adding spinach into a salad or add kale into a smoothie.
Dark chocolate which is at least 70% cocoa is a superfood for teeth – when eaten in moderation. Dark chocolate contains a compound called CBH which has shown to harden tooth enamel and fight decay, nearly as good as fluoride does! However, don’t go eating loads of chocolate, particularly ones high in sugar and low in cocoa. The cocoa bean is what has the good stuff for your teeth so the higher the cocoa level, the better it is.
